Turn your textbook into flashcards, one chapter at a time
Start with the chapter on your course plan. Keep its study material together as a topic in your class.
How it works
Add the textbook to your class on the web. Clevaly splits it into chapters once, from the table of contents or printed contents pages, and each chapter becomes a topic. Make flashcards, notes, a cheat sheet or a practice test from a chapter, then study in Flashcards, Learn, Test or Match.
Get started in 3 steps
- 1
Add the textbook to your class on the web
Open the class and choose Import textbook to add the textbook PDF.
- 2
Review the chapter topics
Clevaly uses the table of contents or printed contents pages to split the book into chapter topics. Check that the detected topics match the book.
- 3
Make study material for this chapter
Choose the chapter you need and make flashcards, notes, a cheat sheet or a practice test. Review the output before studying.
Why study chapter by chapter?
Your course plan usually points you to a particular reading. Chapter topics let you focus your flashcards and notes on that reading instead of mixing the whole book into one set. For a single lecture PDF rather than a chapter-based book, use PDF to flashcards.
Ask Cleva about a chapter
Open the chapter topic and ask Cleva about the reading you are studying. Keep the book beside the explanation so you can check terminology, definitions and details.
Chapter topics beside your course files
Topics keep chapter study material within the class, beside files synced from Moodle, Canvas or Brightspace. Use your chapter material together with the lecture files for the same part of the course.
Study the same set in four ways
| Mode | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Flashcards | Review a term, then reveal its definition. |
| Learn | Practice the terms in your set. |
| Test | Check your understanding with a practice test. |
| Match | Pair terms with their definitions. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a whole textbook?
Yes. Add the textbook PDF to your class on the web. Clevaly detects chapter ranges and makes chapter topics so you can generate study material for the chapter you need.
What if the textbook has no contents page?
Without a table of contents or printed contents pages, chapter detection may not find the right ranges. Check the import result and the topic list before generating; do not assume that every chapter was detected.
Do I study a chapter or the whole book?
The chapter workflow creates topics from the book so you can make study material from a chapter rather than treating the whole book as one set.
Can I make a practice test for a chapter?
Yes. You can make a practice test from a chapter, as well as flashcards, notes or a cheat sheet.
Will the chapters and flashcards be accurate?
Chapter detection and AI generation can make mistakes. Check the chapter topics and generated material against the book before studying.
Is my textbook used to train AI?
No. Your files are used to create your study material, not to train AI models.
