Your Moodle is already a study app. It just does not know it.
Everything you need to study is uploaded by your instructors every week. The problem is that it stays there. Here is how Clevaly brings it over without the downloading.
Favour · September 14, 2026 · 4 min readLook at any Moodle course page and it is all there: slides per week, readings, the syllabus, quiz dates, assignment deadlines. Instructors have already done the organizing. Students then spend the term re-doing it by hand, one download at a time.
Read-only, by design
Clevaly connects to Moodle the same way the official Moodle mobile app does: through your school's own login page, including single sign-on and two-factor. What comes back is a read-only app token. Clevaly never sees your password and never writes to Moodle. Grades, submissions and forum posts are out of scope on purpose.
Where a school has locked down the Moodle API, the browser extension does the same job from the course page itself, using your normal browser session.
Filing, not dumping
The interesting part is not the download, it is where the file goes. Each file is classified by the Moodle section it lived in, the module title and a few keywords, and filed under the matching topic in your Clevaly class. Week four slides sit under week four. The syllabus is recognized and promoted to the class syllabus, so exam dates appear on Home. Quizzes and assignments are never downloaded; only their deadlines are reported.
No model calls are involved in classification. It is deterministic, fast, and easy to correct with one click when a course uses unusual section names.
Syncing when it counts
Moodle sessions expire overnight, and you sign back in when you open Moodle in the morning. That is the moment new material is most likely to exist, so that is when Clevaly syncs. The extension reports a live session, Clevaly decides whether it is the first visit of the day, and queues a sync if so. An hourly server pass catches anyone without the extension, at most once a day.
Then the useful part
Once material is filed, you choose what happens next: leave it on the topic page, get an inbox note per class, or let Clevaly keep one study set per topic that is topped up as files arrive. Cleva answers questions from the same files, so an explanation cites your professor's slides rather than a random website.
